BIOGRAPHY


Recording artist, topline songwriter, media composer & producer - Sharon Gitau has been singing, playing piano & writing songs since early childhood and composing music for stories is her passion.

Music services Sharon provides, include: session vocals, vocal STEMs, backing vocal arrangements, topline melody & lyrics for producers and she writes original production music - songs, cues & scores for soundtracks; available to license directly. She is also a vocal coach, voiceover artist and narrator.

She began writing poetry and started songwriting at eight. Joined her first band as the lead vocalist & keyboardist and recorded her first EP - 'Fairweather Friends' at ten. By fifteen, she was a backing vocalist for Boy George’s single "Bow Down Mister."

Whilst still at college, she worked during her spring & summer breaks, on tour in Europe, with some of her musical heroes: Michael Jackson (Dangerous World TourPrince (Diamonds and Pearls TourU2 (Zoo TV TourEric Clapton, Elton John & Bonnie Raitt and Guns N' Roses (Use Your Illusion World Tour.) She was so inspired by these artists’ music and showmanship, it cemented her decision to devote herself full time to singing, songwriting and performing live. She left college to pursue her music career and became the lead singer and co-writer of piano pop band 'Right of Light' in her native London and established herself as a session vocalist.

At nineteen, Sharon was chosen as one of seven cast members, from 36,000 people in fifteen countries, to be on MTV's pioneering docu-drama, reality TV show The Real World: London. Her cast was inducted into The Museum of Television & Radio (now *The Paley Center for Media) as 'Pioneers in Reality Television.'

She moved to Los Angeles & NYC and created a music production company with composer Eric Kamen, to write songs for other recording artists and to launch her music career in the U.S.

She spent a decade composing, writing & producing a catalog of songs and performing with her band, in: LA, NYC & CT; all over Europe: London, Paris, Cannes, Monaco, Florence, Puglia, Palma, Mallorca, Holland, Barcelona, Prague and Mauritius.

She continued working within the music & TV industries at: The Metropolitan Opera Guild in their Education dept. and as a Talent Escort for the MOG Lecture Series; at Columbia Records (SonyBMG) in Marketing/Tour Marketing and at NBC in Network Advertising & Promotions and Production - which helped to hone her music licensing, voiceover, live events and music & TV production skills.

A Writer & Publisher member of ASCAP since 1995, Sharon's songs and music have been featured in: short film ‘The Apothecary’ - winner of The BFI's First Light Film Award for 'Best Drama' and in TV show soundtracks on U.S. & U.K. networks, including: NBC, MTV, MTV Europe, VH1, Disney Channel & Channel 4. Her songs have been playlisted on: KROC, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC London Live, Choice FM, LBC and digital radio stations, including: Music Choice Europe, Sirius FM and LA Talk Radio.
